50-person backyard wedding with heavy drinking: 1 or 2 units?

We're having our wedding in my parents' backyard in October. It will be a 50-guest evening event with a full dinner and an open bar for about five hours. The ground is level grass, and the driveway has room for a truck to get in and out. I'm trying to decide between renting one or two standard portable toilets.

I keep reading that alcohol increases usage, and I really don't want a long line forming during the reception. The rental company's basic guideline for a party this size might suggest one unit, but that seems to be for events without alcohol. I'm worried that with 50 people drinking for five hours, one toilet could get overwhelmed quickly.

Is one standard unit enough for 50 people with heavy drinking, or should we definitely get a second one to prevent lines? Does adding a handwash station change the math at all?

Rent two standard portable toilets for your 50-guest wedding with an open bar. One unit is too few for this combination of guest count, event length and alcohol consumption.

The standard event guideline is about one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Your event is five hours with heavy drinking, which significantly increases usage frequency. Alcohol acts as a diuretic, so guests will need the restroom more often. Two units will prevent long lines, which is critical for guest comfort at a wedding.

A handwash station is a separate hygiene facility and does not change the toilet count. You should always include at least one handwash station with any portable toilet setup. For a wedding, consider a deluxe unit with a built-in sink for a more comfortable experience, but that is an upgrade, not a substitute for having enough toilets.

Your event will not need a mid-event service visit because the holding tank capacity of two units is sufficient for five hours. Ensure the rental company places the units on your level grass with clear truck access for pickup the next day.
