We're planning a quinceañera for my niece in our backyard next month. We expect about 90 guests, mostly family, and it will run from about 3 PM until 10 PM. We're serving a full dinner and there will be alcohol. The yard is flat grass and a vacuum truck can pull right up to the edge of the lawn. I was thinking of just renting one standard portable toilet to keep things simple and save money. But with that many people for seven hours, plus food and drinks, I'm worried one unit will have a long line and get messy fast. Is one standard unit enough for a party this size, or should we get two?

One standard portable toilet is not enough for a quinceañera with 90 guests over seven hours with food and alcohol. You need two standard units, at minimum, and you should add a handwash station.

The industry guideline for events starts near one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Your event is longer, involves a full dinner which increases use, and alcohol significantly shortens the time between guests' visits. With one unit, you will have a persistent line, and the unit will become overwhelmed and unpleasant well before the party ends. A single 50 to 70 gallon holding tank will fill up, and odor control will fail.

Rent two standard units. Place them together as a cluster on your flat grass with clear truck access. This cuts the wait time and spreads the use. The cost for a second unit is driven by the rental rate for the weekend and a second delivery fee, but it is essential for guest comfort. You must also include a handwash station with soap and water; a hand sanitizer dispenser inside the unit is not a substitute for hand washing after a meal. Order service for the day after the event to have the units cleaned and pumped, as a seven-hour party with 90 people constitutes heavy use.
