Service truck access: what if our site has a steep incline?

Our site is a residential addition in Chicago with a steep gravel driveway. The crew of 12 will be here for 10 weeks. I have one standard portable toilet placed near the back of the lot for convenience. The rental company delivered it fine with a smaller truck, but I'm worried their vacuum truck won't make it up the incline for the weekly pumping. The ground is level where the unit sits, but the access road is the issue. What happens if the service truck can't reach the spot? Do companies have smaller pumps or other solutions for sites like this, or will I get charged for a missed service?

If the vacuum truck cannot reach your portable toilet, the rental company will log a missed service and bill you for the trip. The driver must be able to park their truck within about 25 feet of the unit on every service day.

For a steep gravel driveway, ask the company if they have a smaller truck or a portable pump. Some operators use a portable pump with long hoses that can service the unit from the bottom of the incline. You must confirm this is available in your contract. Without a solution, you will need to move the standard unit to an accessible location for each service visit.

Your crew of 12 needs one toilet per OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51, so the single unit is sufficient. Weekly service frequency is standard for a 10-week project, but heavy use may require more visits. Solve the access issue now to avoid extra charges.
