Why does the blue liquid disappear so fast in hot weather?

Our standard portable toilet is serviced every Tuesday by a reliable rental company. The unit is on a residential construction site with a crew of eight guys and it sits on level crushed stone near the curb. The truck has no problem getting to it. Every week, the driver pumps it out, sprays it down, and refills the holding tank with that bright blue deodorizer liquid. But by Friday afternoon when the heat really sets in, the blue color is completely gone and the unit starts to smell. This is a consistent pattern all summer long.

I know heat speeds up evaporation, but the smell returning so quickly makes me wonder if the chemicals are breaking down. Is the weekly service frequency just not enough for a hot week? Does the type of deodorizer formula make a bigger difference in the heat than I realize?

Heat accelerates evaporation and chemical breakdown of the deodorizer, causing the blue color to fade and odor to return quickly. In high temperatures, the liquid in your holding tank evaporates faster, concentrating waste and reducing the effectiveness of the deodorizing agents. The chemicals, especially fragrances and surfactants, degrade more rapidly under heat stress.

Weekly service frequency is standard, but it is often insufficient for summer conditions. For a crew of eight, OSHA 1926.51 requires only one unit, but heat demands more frequent servicing. Request mid-week service from your rental company during hot months. Also, ask if they use a heat-stable, formaldehyde-free deodorizer formulated for high temperatures, as some formulas hold up better than others.
