Can a vacuum truck pump a porta potty on a 5% slope in November?

We have a standard portable toilet on our residential construction site in Chicago, placed on a slight slope that measures about 5%. The ground is grass and gets muddy when it rains, which is common in November. The vacuum truck can park right next to it on the driveway, but I'm concerned about the unit not being level during pumping. If the holding tank isn't flat, will the suction work properly? Could waste be left behind or cause a spill? Should I ask the rental company to move it to level ground before winter sets in?

Yes, a vacuum truck can pump a portable toilet on a 5% slope, but it is not ideal and increases the risk of incomplete waste removal or spills. The suction works by creating a vacuum inside the holding tank, and if the unit is tilted, the liquid waste may not fully drain from the lower corners, leaving residue. On a slope, the operator must work more slowly and may need to reposition the hose, which can lead to spills if the ground is muddy and unstable. For a standard unit like yours, the risk is manageable but real. I recommend asking the rental company to move it to level ground before winter. November rain and freezing temperatures will make the grass site even muddier, complicating service visits. A level placement ensures efficient pumping, reduces spill hazards, and aligns with standard operating practices for reliable waste disposal.
