Porta Potty Forum

Our porta potty is slowly tilting into the lawn after a week of rain. Do we ask them to come level it?

We've had rain most of this week and the standard unit behind our barn has started to lean toward the downhill side. It's not dramatic, but the door swings shut on its own now and the floor feels off when you step in. The ground was firm when they dropped it two weeks ago, so this caught us by surprise.

I'm worried it keeps sinking and eventually tips, or that the tilt messes with how the tank gets pumped out. Should we call and ask them to come reset it on something firmer, or is dragging it to a drier spot ourselves a bad idea? The service truck can reach the new spot fine if moving it is the answer.

Call the rental company and ask them to reset the unit on level ground. A tilting portable toilet can affect the door operation, the user's footing and the efficiency of the vacuum truck during pumping. Do not move it yourself. The unit weighs about 200 pounds empty and has a full holding tank, making it unsafe to drag. The rental company's driver will use a truck with a lift gate to reposition it safely. They might place it on a wood platform or a more stable area to prevent future sinking. Explain the ground condition and the new spot you have in mind, ensuring the service truck can reach it. This service is part of maintaining proper placement, so there should not be an extra charge for a routine correction like this.

Call the rental company and ask them to come reset it. A unit that leans now will keep sinking on the low side while the ground stays wet, and a tilted tank is harder for the driver to pump out cleanly. Until they get there, put a cone or a strip of tape across the door so nobody steps into a floor that feels off, especially kids or anyone with bad balance.

Don't drag it yourself. Even an empty unit is top heavy and awkward, and one with a full tank can go over and make a mess you really don't want. If you need it moved before the truck can come, tell the dispatcher that and let them decide how.

When you call, say the ground went soft after the rain, name the new spot behind the barn, and mention the truck can reach it. Pick a spot that stays dry, away from where the barn roof sheds water, and ask if they can set a flat board or some gravel under the corners. Whether a reset costs anything depends on your rental agreement, so ask that before they roll out.
