Vandalism on site: how to secure porta potties in November 2026?

We've got a 12-month commercial build in Phoenix with 120 workers on site daily. The rental company dropped 4 standard units and 1 ADA-compliant unit back in August, serviced weekly. Last week, someone pried open the door latches on two standard units and kicked in the vents. No graffiti yet, but it's only a matter of time. The units are on level dirt about 50 feet from the street, so the vacuum truck has no issue reaching them. With the holidays coming up, I'm worried about more tampering. What's the best way to secure these things against vandals? Should I ask the rental company for locking latches or just chain them to a fixed object?

Ask the rental company for locking latches and chain the units to a fixed object. Locking latches are a common upgrade that replace the standard spring latch, and many companies stock them. Chaining the unit to a fixed object like a construction fence post or a concrete barrier adds a physical deterrent. Your placement on level dirt 50 feet from the street is good for truck access, so the chains won't interfere with weekly service visits.

Vandalism spikes around holidays when sites are quieter. Locking latches resist prying, and chains make tipping or dragging harder. Your cluster of four standard units and one ADA-compliant unit meets OSHA 1926.51 for 120 workers, so keeping them secure avoids downtime. The rental company may charge for the latch upgrade, but it's cheaper than repairing kicked-in vents or replacing a whole unit.
