Formaldehyde-free deodorizer: does it work as well in November cold?

We run an annual two-day craft beer festival here in Pennsylvania with about 1,200 attendees. We rent 15 standard units and one ADA-compliant unit, all with hand sanitizer dispensers. The ground is a flat, grassy field with great truck access. Our rental company has always used a standard deodorizer, but this year I'm pushing for a formaldehyde-free option because we're near a creek. The festival is the first weekend of November, and it can get below freezing at night. I know formaldehyde-free works well in the summer, but will it hold up against odor in the cold when bacterial action slows down? Does the blue liquid freeze or separate? Should we ask for more frequent service visits?

Yes, formaldehyde-free deodorizer works in the cold. It holds up against odor in November because the formula is designed for low temperatures. The liquid does not freeze or separate in normal portable toilet use. You do not need more frequent service visits for the cold alone.

Formaldehyde-free deodorizer uses different biocides that remain active in cold weather. Bacterial action slows, but the deodorizer still controls odor effectively. The blue liquid has antifreeze properties to prevent freezing in the holding tank. Your rental company likely already uses it in winter.

Your event setup is good: 16 total units for 1,200 people over two days with alcohol matches the units per person guideline for events. The ADA-compliant portable toilet meets the ADA 5 percent cluster rule. Service frequency is driven by use, not cold weather. With heavy use and alcohol, consider an extra service mid-event if the rental company offers it. That keeps units fresh without changing the deodorizer type.
