Porta Potty Forum

Need our job site porta potty moved 80 feet so the dumpster can go in. Can my crew just move it with the forklift?

We're framing a custom house and the unit has been sitting by the front of the lot since we started. Next week the roll off gets dropped and the only spot the driver can back into is right where the porta potty is. I want it moved maybe 80 feet toward the back corner, still on gravel, still reachable from the drive.

One of my guys says we can just slide the forks under it on the telehandler and set it down, takes five minutes. My worry is the tank. It got serviced Monday but by Thursday it's got a few days of use in it, and I really don't want it sloshing out or cracking the base.

Is it normal for a crew to relocate a rented standard unit on site, or does the rental company want to do it themselves? And if we do it, what's the right way so nothing spills?

No, do not move a rented standard unit yourself with a forklift or telehandler. The rental company will move it, usually for a fee. A standard unit has a 50 to 70 gallon holding tank that is heavy and sloshes when moved. Tilting it can spill waste through the seat or vent, and dropping it cracks the plastic base or tank. Your rental agreement likely prohibits customer moves for liability reasons, if it breaks, you pay for the unit. Call your rental company. They will send a truck with a winch or lift gate to move it safely on your next service day. Tell them exactly where you want it, on level ground with truck access. They handle this all the time.

  • Tyler R. Same on our sites. We have the driver move it right after a pump out, when the tank is close to empty, and we spray paint the new spot on the gravel so it gets set level the first time.
