Porta Potty Forum

Our dogs keep marking the porta potty in the side yard. Will the rental company charge us, and should I fence it off?

We've had a standard unit in the side yard for about three weeks while our septic line gets dug up and replaced, and it'll be there at least another month. Our two dogs are obsessed with it. The younger one lifts his leg on the corner of the base every time he's out, and the older one scratches at the door like something is living in there.

So far it's just scuff marks on the bottom of the door and a wet spot on the skid. I hose it off when I notice.

Couple things I'm wondering. Does dog pee on the outside actually hurt the plastic or the base, or is it just gross? Will the driver flag it and stick us with a cleaning fee at pickup? And is it worth putting up a short section of garden fence around it, or will that just get in the way on service day?

Anybody dealt with this with pets?

The rental company will not charge you for dog urine on the outside of the unit as long as there is no damage to the plastic or structure. Dog urine will not harm the polyethylene plastic of a standard unit or its base; it is primarily a cosmetic issue. The driver will likely notice the wet spot and scratches during the service visit or at pickup, but they are accustomed to outdoor wear and tear. They may hose it down themselves as part of routine cleaning. Only intentional damage or neglect that requires repair would result in a fee.

Fencing it off with a short garden fence is a good idea to deter the dogs and prevent further marking. Place the fence far enough from the unit to allow the driver clear access for pumping, about three feet on all sides. Ensure the gate is left unlocked or removable on service days. This keeps the unit accessible and avoids a missed service charge.
