What's the real benefit of a flushing portable toilet over a standard unit?

I'm putting together a quote for a corporate client hosting a 200-person, six-hour outdoor awards dinner at a park. They have a level grassy area with good truck access, and they're insisting on flushing portable toilets. I usually recommend a cluster of standard units for this kind of event, but they want the upgrade. I know a standard unit is a simple chemical toilet with a holding tank. A flushing unit has a porcelain-like bowl and a small freshwater reservoir for a manual or foot-pedal flush, which sends waste into the same type of holding tank. The experience is closer to an indoor restroom. But is the hygiene actually better? The waste ends up in the same tank with the same deodorizer. Does the flushing action itself reduce bacteria or odor in a meaningful way, or is this purely about perceived comfort and status for the guests?

For those of you who've managed events with both types, what's the real benefit you've observed?

The real benefit of a flushing portable toilet is guest comfort and the perception of hygiene, not a measurable reduction in bacteria or odor in the holding tank. A flushing unit provides a porcelain-like bowl and a manual or foot-pedal flush that mimics an indoor restroom experience, which many guests prefer over the direct drop into a chemical tank of a standard unit. The waste and deodorizer end up in the same type of holding tank, so the sanitation process is identical once the waste is deposited. For a 200-person, six-hour outdoor event with alcohol service, the industry guideline starts at one unit per 50 to 75 people, but you should add units for the longer duration and the presence of alcohol. A flushing unit requires more frequent service than a standard unit because the freshwater reservoir needs refilling and the flushing mechanism can be prone to clogs or misuse. The rental cost is higher due to the unit's complexity, increased service needs, and the freshwater supply. Your client is paying for guest satisfaction and a premium experience, not a fundamentally cleaner waste disposal system.
