Porta Potty Forum

Delivery truck left ruts across my front lawn and cracked a sprinkler head. Can I ask them to wheel it out at pickup?

We're about three weeks into a bathroom remodel and the porta potty sits at the side of the driveway like we asked. Problem is the driver didn't back down the driveway. He cut across the corner of the front lawn with the truck, left two muddy ruts, and cracked one sprinkler head on the way out. The unit itself is fine and service has been on time every week.

Pickup is probably another four weeks out once the tile is done, and I'd like to avoid round two.

Is it normal to ask that the unit get wheeled out to the street on a dolly instead of the truck driving onto grass? Should I flag the sprinkler lines, or just put a note on the work order? And is lawn damage something people usually bring up with the rental company, or do you just eat it and reseed?

Yes, you can ask the rental company to wheel the unit out with a dolly at pickup. Lawn damage from a service truck is not normal and you should not eat the cost. The driver should have backed down the driveway as you directed.

Call the rental company now. Do not wait for pickup. Report the cracked sprinkler head and the ruts. They need to know immediately so they can instruct the driver and avoid more damage on the next service visit. Flagging the sprinkler lines yourself is a good idea to prevent further issues, but the company is responsible for the repair.

At pickup, request that the driver use a dolly to move the standard portable toilet to the street. Most trucks carry a dolly for this exact reason. The driver can winch the unit onto the truck bed from the pavement. This is a standard request for residential placements where truck access is limited or where the customer wants to protect the lawn.
