How do operators decide on service frequency for a new construction site?

I just signed a contract for a 30-week residential addition project with a crew of ten. The rental company delivered one standard portable toilet and an ADA-compliant unit, and they recommended weekly service. The site is a standard city lot with gravel access for the vacuum truck. I'm curious about how they landed on that weekly schedule. Is it just the number of people? The holding tank capacity is a fixed size. Does the type of crew or the project duration factor in? I want to make sure the units are functional for the guys all week, but I also don't want to pay for service visits we don't need. How do you operators calculate the right service frequency for a new construction site? What questions do you ask the customer?

We set service frequency by the number of users, tank capacity, and weather. For your ten-person crew with one standard portable toilet and an ADA-compliant portable toilet, weekly service is standard. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 requires one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, so you meet the minimum. A standard unit holds 50 to 70 gallons; with ten people using it five days a week, the tank fills slowly. We assume each person uses it twice daily, adding about ten gallons per day total. Heat increases evaporation and odor, so summer might need mid-week checks. We ask about crew size, work hours, and if there are extra visitors. Your gravel access is good; blocked units mean missed service and extra trips. Weekly service covers pumping, deodorizer recharge, and cleaning. If the crew reports issues early, we adjust; otherwise, weekly prevents overflows and keeps the site compliant.
