October 2026 fall wedding: can we place porta potties on a sloped lawn?

We're planning our October 2026 wedding in our backyard, which has a gentle slope. We're expecting 120 guests over 6 hours with dinner and an open bar. The rental company said they need level ground for the portable toilets, but I'm not sure how to make that happen. We're looking at standard units and one ADA-compliant unit, and the delivery truck can park right next to the spot. How do you handle a sloped lawn? Do we need to build a platform or can they level it themselves?

Yes, a gentle slope works fine as long as every unit ends up sitting level, and the ADA unit gets the flattest spot you have. Our backyard for my daughter's quince dropped toward the back fence, and the driver walked the yard before unloading and picked the high flat strip near the driveway. He leveled the two standard units with shims under the skids right there. You don't need to build a platform for standard units on a gentle grade.

The ADA unit is stricter. Under the 2010 ADA Standards, the clear floor space at the door can't slope more than 1:48, and the path a wheelchair rolls on needs a running slope of 1:20 or flatter. Anything steeper counts as a ramp, and a ramp can't go past 1:12. So put that one on your most level ground, close to the driveway or a patio.

Two things that saved us stress: we flagged the exact spots the week before delivery, and we asked the company in writing whether their driver shims on site or expects us to prep a pad. A unit that rocks when someone steps in feels sketchy to guests, especially late in the night once the bar has been open a while.
