Is a boat porta potty the same thing as a rental porta potty?

A boat porta potty is a different system from a rental porta potty. A standard portable toilet is a standalone unit with a built-in 50 to 70 gallon holding tank that is serviced by a vacuum truck. A marine porta potty is a small, portable container, usually holding five to ten gallons, designed to be carried and emptied by hand. It is not serviced by a vacuum truck.

You empty a marine unit yourself by detaching the waste tank and pouring the contents into a shore-side toilet or a pump-out station. Some marinas have pump-out facilities that use a small vacuum hose, but it is not the same as the large truck that services rental units. Marine porta potties are made for occasional use on small boats where space is tight and professional service is not practical.

Rental units are built for heavy use and are cleaned and pumped weekly by the rental company. The marine version is a self-contained system you maintain. For your ranch, the rental units are the right choice for crews. For the boat, the marine type is the standard solution because you can't drive a service truck to a dock.
