What happens if a porta potty tips over in high winds?

We have a construction site on the lakefront with consistent high winds. We have three standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant unit, all staked down. The ground is level gravel, and the truck can reach them easily for weekly service. I'm worried about a unit tipping over in a storm. If one blows over, what's the cleanup procedure? Does the rental company handle it, or is it on us? What about the waste spill?

If a portable toilet tips over, the rental company handles the cleanup and waste spill. You must call them immediately to report the incident. The rental company will send a crew with a vacuum truck and cleaning supplies to contain the spill, sanitize the area and reset the unit. They bill you for the emergency service call and any repairs. You are responsible for securing the area to keep people away from the spill until they arrive.

Your setup has level gravel and staking, which is good, but lakefront wind is a real risk. Ask your rental company about heavier-duty tie-downs or sandbags. On my sites, I use extra stakes and place units near a windbreak when possible. A tipped unit is a mess, it violates OSHA 1926.51 sanitation requirements and it costs you downtime and extra fees. Prevent it with better anchoring.
