High-rise unit servicing: what if the building's freight elevator breaks?

Call the rental company the day you learn the freight elevator is down and get the service visit moved to a day the elevator runs, or ask if they can pump from the floor with a long hose setup.

Most outfits that place a standard unit inside a high-rise already deal with freight elevators going offline. They usually reschedule the vacuum truck once you give them the outage window. Do not try to move the unit down yourself. A half-full holding tank is heavy, and a spill on a finished floor lands on you if you touch it without their crew.

If the tank is already about half full and you still have a full week with roughly 30 workers ahead, say that when you call. They may squeeze in an earlier pump while the elevator still works, or stage a spare unit at street level if the outage runs longer than a day. Write down who you talked to and the new service day so the next driver is not surprised at a locked shaft.

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 still expects toilets to stay usable for the crew size, so a missed service that leaves the unit full is a real problem. Lock the reschedule before Tuesday.
