How often should a construction porta potty get pumped in summer heat?

We have one standard unit on a framing job with about a dozen people rotating through. Mid August heat has been brutal and the tank smell hits you the second you open the door by Thursday, even though the service visit is still on a weekly schedule.

OSHA just says toilets have to stay clean and sanitary. It does not spell out a pump schedule. Crew lead wants me to ask for twice a week until temps drop.

For anyone who has run units through a hot summer on a job site: is weekly usually enough for a crew this size, or do you bump to midweek pumps once the heat sticks? Also curious whether more deodorizer between visits actually helps or if the only fix is emptying the holding tank sooner.

Bump the service visit to twice a week while the heat sticks. Weekly is the usual baseline on a quiet lot, but a dozen people in August will cook the holding tank by midweek. Smell by Thursday is the tank telling you it is past due, not a soap problem.

OSHA 1926.51 only says toilets must stay clean and sanitary. It never publishes a pump calendar. On framing jobs I have run, twice a week in peak heat kept the door usable. Once temps drop and headcount stays around a dozen, weekly is usually fine again.

Extra deodorizer between visits helps a little with odor at the surface. It does not empty the tank or fix a unit that is already overloaded. Charge and clean on a midweek stop, then keep the Friday or Monday visit. Ask the supplier to leave the door stocked with paper and soap when they pump so the cabin does not fall apart between runs.

If the crew grows past the teens, treat service and fixture count as two separate problems. Pumping more often will not replace a second standard unit if the lunch line is the real bottleneck.
