Why does porta potty deodorizer lose effectiveness in November cold?

I service a construction site with six standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant unit. It's been about three weeks since the cold snap hit here in Ohio, and I've noticed something odd. The units don't smell as strong as they did in summer, but they also seem less effective at controlling odors by midweek. The deodorizer blue liquid looks thicker and doesn't spread as well in the holding tank. I'm pumping them weekly, same as always, on level gravel ground with good truck access. Does cold weather slow down the chemical reaction in the deodorizer? Or is it just that bacterial activity decreases when the tank gets chilly?

Cold weather slows down the chemical and biological activity in the deodorizer and the holding tank, making it less effective by midweek. The blue liquid thickens in the cold, which reduces its ability to spread and coat the waste surface properly. Bacterial breakdown of waste also decreases significantly when the tank temperature drops, allowing odors to develop faster than the deodorizer can neutralize them.

For your six standard units and one ADA-compliant unit on a construction site, weekly service is the standard frequency under normal conditions. In cold weather like Ohio's November, you may need to increase the service frequency to twice a week or use a cold-weather deodorizer formula designed to remain fluid and active at lower temperatures. Ensure the deodorizer is poured slowly into the tank during service to help it distribute, even when viscous. The cold doesn't damage the units, but it demands adjustments in maintenance to keep odor control consistent.
