Formaldehyde-free deodorizer effectiveness in November cold temperatures

We switched to a formaldehyde-free deodorizer this year for our standard units and ADA-compliant units. It worked fine through the summer, but now that November's here and temps are dropping into the 40s, I'm noticing the odor control isn't holding up. The units are on a construction site with about 30 guys, serviced weekly, placed on level gravel about 20 feet from where the truck parks. No issues with access. The blue liquid seems thinner and the smell breaks through faster. Is this a common issue with the eco formulas in colder weather? Do I need to adjust the service frequency or the mix?

Yes, formaldehyde-free deodorizer loses effectiveness in cold weather. The surfactants and biocides in eco formulas slow down as temperatures drop, reducing odor control and making the blue liquid appear thinner. Weekly service is standard for 30 workers under OSHA 1926.51, but cold weather demands adjustments. Increase service frequency to twice weekly during cold snaps. Ask your operator to dose the deodorizer heavier per visit, as cold reduces its breakdown rate. Ensure the vent stack is clear for airflow, which helps with odor control. In my experience, units on gravel stay colder, so this is common with non-formaldehyde options when November hits.
