Porta Potty Forum

Clocks went back and my framing crew now starts in the dark. Anybody put a light in or by the jobsite porta potty?

Since the time change my guys are on site about half an hour before it gets light, and the porta potty sits at the back corner of the lot past the lumber pile. Two of them have already tripped on offcuts walking out there, and inside it's basically black once the door shuts.

I was going to zip tie a battery puck light to the inside wall and stake a motion light near the door. Couple questions before I do that:

Will the rental company care if I stick something on the inside wall, or is there a better way people mount them?

Is lighting around the toilet my problem or theirs?

Should I just ask them to move the unit up closer to the driveway where the work lights already reach? The service truck comes once a week and parks out front anyway, so it would probably make their life easier too.

Yes, you can add lighting to a jobsite portable toilet. The rental company will not mind if you attach a battery light inside, but avoid drilling holes or using permanent adhesives. Zip ties around the vent stack or a magnetic light are better options. A motion-activated light outside helps prevent trips.

Lighting around the unit is your responsibility as the site manager, not the rental company's. They provide the toilet and service it weekly per standard construction contracts.

Moving the unit closer to the driveway is a smart solution. It improves safety and makes the weekly service visit easier for the vacuum truck driver. Just confirm with the rental company that the new spot has level ground and clear truck access. They'll usually relocate it at no extra charge if it streamlines their route.
