Soft ground after November 2026 rains: will service truck access be ok?

We're planning a weekend food festival in a city park for 500 people over two days, with beer sales. The rental company is bringing five standard units, one ADA-compliant unit, and a handwash station. The ground is grass and got soaked in the heavy November rains last week. It's still soft and squishy in spots. The delivery spot is about 20 feet from the paved access road. I'm worried the vacuum truck might sink or get stuck when they come to pump the units. Has anyone had experience with service visits on soft ground after big rains? What should I ask the rental company about their truck's access requirements?

Ask the rental company whether the vacuum truck can stay on the paved road and reach your units with its hose, because that one answer decides most of this. A loaded pump truck is heavy and soaked grass ruts fast, and once a tire sinks you are waiting on a tow while the line at the units grows.

We run a lot of events on park turf and here is what I ask every time it has been wet:

  1. How far the hose reaches from the truck. If it covers the 20 feet from your road, set the units right at the edge of the grass and the truck never leaves pavement.
  2. Whether they will deliver on a flatbed or dolly the units in by hand instead of driving onto the lawn.
  3. Who pays for tow recovery and turf damage if the driver chooses to pull onto soft ground. Get that in writing before the weekend.
  4. What time the midweekend service visit happens, so you can keep that path clear of vendors and parked carts.

Also walk the spot the day before. Squishy patches hold water, and units need level ground so they do not lean or rock once people start using them. Park staff can usually point you to the highest, best drained strip near the road.
