November 2026 charity run: 500 participants, 3 hours. Units and handwash stations?

I'm planning a charity 5K run for November 2026 with 500 participants. The event runs from 9 AM to noon on paved park trails. We'll have a post-race snack tent but no alcohol. I need to place portable toilets and handwash stations near the start/finish area, flat grass with truck access from the service road.

I'm deciding between standard units and a restroom trailer. How many units should I rent for a 3-hour event with this crowd? Should I include ADA-compliant units even if we don't have registered wheelchair users? And how many handwash stations make sense for a post-run crowd?

For a 500-person charity run, rent at least 10 standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant unit near the start/finish area, plus two handwash stations. The ADA 5 percent cluster rule requires an accessible unit even without registered wheelchair users. A restroom trailer is an option but needs level ground, power and a water hookup.

Event planning guidelines suggest one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Since your run is three hours with no alcohol, 10 standard units should suffice. Add more if the crowd is mostly women. The ADA-compliant unit must have a wheelchair turning space and be marked with the accessibility symbol.

Handwash stations are essential after a run. Two stations with soap and paper towels serve 500 people well. Place them next to the toilet cluster.

Standard units use a holding tank and deodorizer. Weekly service is normal, but for a one-day event, the rental company will service after pickup. Restroom trailers cost more due to features like flushing toilets and sinks. The final price depends on unit type, rental duration and delivery distance.
