Why does our porta potty smell worse right after service in October heat?

We're renovating our only bathroom, so we have a standard portable toilet on our driveway. It's been there for three weeks now, and the rental company comes every Monday for the service visit. The first two weeks were fine, but this week we had a string of unseasonably warm October days, highs in the 80s. The day after service, the unit smelled noticeably worse than it did before they came. It's not a subtle change; it's a strong, sharp odor that hits you when you open the door. The unit is on level concrete, and the vacuum truck has no trouble parking right next to it. I thought fresh deodorizer and a pumped-out holding tank would make it better, not worse. What causes this spike in odor right after servicing in warm weather? Is it something about the deodorizer reacting to the heat?

The spike in odor right after servicing in warm weather is likely caused by the deodorizer being agitated and releasing volatile compounds as it mixes with the remaining waste in the holding tank. During a service visit, the vacuum truck pumps out most of the waste, but a small amount often remains. The service technician adds fresh deodorizer, which contains surfactants and fragrances. In high heat, these compounds evaporate quickly, creating a strong, sharp odor until the mixture stabilizes. This effect is more pronounced in October heat because the unit warms up rapidly after being cooled overnight. The odor should subside within a day as the deodorizer disperses and begins to work. Ensure the rental company uses a formaldehyde-free deodorizer, which is less harsh but may still cause temporary odor spikes in warm conditions.
