Health department rules
Also called: environmental health, county health rules
Health department rules are the state and county public health requirements that apply to portable toilets at events and food service: handwashing near food, distance from food preparation, waste hauling by a permitted septage hauler and disposal at an approved facility. They are enforced by environmental health inspectors.
At a food festival the inspector checks that food vendors have handwashing, that toilets are a reasonable distance from food prep and that there is a service plan. On the hauling side, the rental company's vacuum truck and driver hold a septage hauler permit in most states.
Rules differ by state and county; ask the permit office which code applies.
