Is a hand sanitizer station enough, or do we need a full handwash station for a public event?
We're organizing a weekend farmers market on a grassy field in our town park. The event runs from 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturdays, and we expect about 200 people. We'll have food vendors selling prepared foods like sandwiches and baked goods. I'm coordinating the portable toilets and trying to keep our budget reasonable. We're planning to rent a few standard portable toilets and an ADA-compliant unit to meet the cluster rule.
My main question is about hand cleaning. A hand sanitizer station is much cheaper and easier to set up than a full handwash station with running water. But I want to make sure we're meeting health standards, especially since food is being served. Does a sanitizer dispenser fulfill the requirements, or do we need the running water and soap from a dedicated handwash station? What do health inspectors typically look for at an event like this?
