Two-day estate sale at my aunt's farmhouse: one porta potty for shoppers, or should we get two?

My aunt passed this summer and we're finally doing the estate sale at her farmhouse the last weekend of October, Friday and Saturday, 8 to 3. The house is on an old septic that the inspector already flagged, so we really don't want a few hundred strangers using the one bathroom inside. Plan is to rent a standard unit and park it at the end of the gravel driveway by the barn.

The sale company told us to expect a rush Friday morning and a slower Saturday. There will also be five or six of us family working both days.

Is one unit enough for that, or should we get two? Do we need a handwash station if there's no food, just a coffee pot for the family? And can they drop it Thursday and pick it up Monday, or is that a weird ask?

Rent two standard units for your two-day estate sale. The sale company expects a rush Friday morning, and you have five or six family workers. OSHA 1926.51 requires one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, so your crew alone meets that minimum. For shoppers, the event planning guideline suggests about one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Your sale runs seven hours each day, so two units handle peak crowds better and prevent long lines.

Add a handwash station even without public food service. Family handling coffee and shoppers touching merchandise makes hand hygiene important. Rental companies commonly drop units Thursday and pick up Monday; it is not a weird ask. Just confirm the pickup date in your contract to avoid extra rental days. Weekly service is the norm, but for a two-day event, one service after Friday or post-event is typical unless usage is very heavy.
