Family of four using one porta potty until December 2026 plumbing fix

Our only bathroom is gutted for a full renovation, and the plumbing fix is scheduled for December 2026. We rented a standard portable toilet for our family of four, two adults and two kids, to use daily. It's placed on our flat gravel driveway, and the rental company's vacuum truck can pull right up to it. They set up weekly service, but after a few days, it's already getting pretty full and smelly. I'm wondering if weekly service is really enough for four people using it around the clock, or if we should ask for more frequent visits. Has anyone else been in this situation? What did you do?

One standard unit works fine for a family of four, but weekly service is usually too thin when everyone is on it day and night.

We ran the same setup through a full bathroom gut. Jobsite schedules assume weekday crew use and then the site goes quiet. A household hits the tank mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends, so it fills and smells faster than that weekly pump day expects. After a few days of round-the-clock use, the unit already feels overdue.

Call the rental company and ask them to bump the cadence while the plumbing is out. Twice a week kept ours usable. If the kids are home all day or you have company over, push for a midweek extra visit on top of that. A fresh pump and a new chemical charge matter more than pouring more deodorizer into a tank that is already high.

Keep it on that flat gravel so the vacuum truck can still pull straight up. You do not need a bigger unit for four people. You need more frequent empties until the indoor bathroom is back.
