Turning space (ADA)

Also called: wheelchair turning radius, 60-inch turning circle

Turning space is the clear floor area inside an accessible portable toilet, either a 60-inch diameter circle or a T-shaped space, that lets a wheelchair user turn around. It is the main reason ADA units are larger than standard units.

The 2010 ADA Standards define turning space in section 304. An accessible unit also needs a level approach with no step, a door that a seated user can open, grab bars and a seat at the required height.
