Porta Potty Forum

Buying versus renting a unit

Also called: owning a porta potty, used portable toilet

Buying a portable toilet instead of renting one makes sense only when you can also handle the servicing: pumping the tank, disposing of the waste legally and keeping deodorizer and paper stocked. Most owners of a single unit still pay a rental company for service.

Farms, hunting camps and remote cabins are the usual buyers. Before buying, check whether a local operator will service a customer-owned unit and what they charge per visit, and whether your state requires a permit to haul or dispose of the waste yourself.
