Do all restroom trailers need a generator?

I'm renting a restroom trailer for a park music festival with 500 guests over two days. The park has no power hookups, and the rental company mentioned a generator for the trailer. I've seen trailers with lights and running water, so I assume those need power for the water pumps and interior lighting. The ground is level grass, and the truck can park right next to the placement spot. Do all restroom trailers require a generator to operate, or are there models with battery-powered pumps and lights? What happens if I skip the generator for a basic unit?

Yes, all restroom trailers require electrical power to operate their water pumps, interior lighting and sometimes heating or air conditioning. The rental company will specify the amperage needed, which ranges from 20 amps for a small two-stall unit to 50 amps or more for a larger trailer. You have two options: a hardwired connection to a building's electrical panel or a generator. Since your park event lacks power hookups, you must rent a generator.

Some restroom trailers have battery backups for lights during brief power losses, but these batteries cannot run the water pumps continuously. Skipping the generator means the trailer will have no running water, no flush toilets and no interior lights after the battery depletes. The holding tanks will still collect waste, but guests will find the unit nonfunctional. Always confirm the power requirements with your rental operator and include the generator in your quote.
