Rain forecast flipped. Can we cancel or postpone our Saturday porta potty rental?

We're renting a standard unit for a backyard birthday party this Saturday, with delivery set for Friday afternoon. The forecast just flipped to all-day rain, and we're deciding tonight whether to move the party indoors or push it a week.

If we cancel today (Thursday), do most rentals still charge once the truck is already on the schedule, or is there usually a free cancel window before delivery? If we postpone instead, can they typically hold the same weekend slot for the following Saturday without treating it like a brand new order?

Don't want a unit sitting unused in the mud if guests stay inside. Anyone dealt with a last-minute weather flip on a party rental?

You need to call the rental company today to ask about their cancellation policy for your specific contract. The standard rental contract includes a delivery fee and a rental rate; most companies charge the delivery fee if they cannot re-rent the unit, and some treat a postponement as a cancellation and a new booking.

My experience with a wedding vendor was that once the truck is scheduled, the delivery fee is usually non-refundable because they have committed a driver and a unit. A postponement to the following weekend is often possible, but they will not hold the same slot without a new contract and confirmation of availability. They may treat it as a cancellation of the original order and create a new one, which could mean a different rate if demand is higher.

For your party, if you move it indoors, a standard unit sitting outside in the rain will be fine structurally, but guests will not use it. The main issue is the cost. Explain the weather situation to the company; sometimes they offer a credit for a future rental if you cancel with enough notice before the truck rolls.
