Saturday-only party: can they pick up the same night, or is it always a weekend rental?

We're hosting a Saturday afternoon backyard party for about 45 people. Food, coolers, kids running around. I only need a standard portable toilet for that one day.

When I called for a quote, one place said delivery is Friday and pickup is Monday no matter what. Another said they could drop Saturday morning and pull it Saturday evening if the route works. Nobody would lock that in writing until I book.

Is a true one-day window normal for event rentals, or do most operators run a weekend calendar and just call it a day rate? Truck access is fine off the driveway. No restroom trailer, just one standard unit. What should I ask for so I'm not paying for Sunday sitting empty on the lawn?

A true one-day window is not the industry norm for a standard portable toilet rental; most operators run on a weekend calendar and bill a weekend rate for Friday to Monday service. The rental company needs to schedule its vacuum truck routes efficiently, and Saturday evening pickups disrupt the driver's schedule and add a trip cost. Some operators will offer a Saturday-only pickup if the route works, but they rarely guarantee it in writing because a missed pickup means a wasted trip. You should ask for a Saturday morning delivery and a Saturday evening pickup, but expect to pay a premium for the extra trip or be offered a weekend rate. The weekend rate covers the unit sitting idle on Sunday, which is standard practice. For your party of 45 people with food and drink, one standard unit meets the event planning guideline, which starts near one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event and adds units for alcohol and longer duration.
